    Default Phalanx - Fire?

    Hey Guys,

So I just picked up this game over the weekend and I'm loving it so far. I'm about to fight the Phalanx, but I just wanted some pointers so that I don't wind up getting killed by it too many times.

I wasn't the most careful stockpiler, so I already used several Firebombs on baddies that didn't need it. I have maybe 3 or 4, and around 4 or 5 Turpentines in my inventory. Would that be enough to deal with the Phalanx and Hoplites? Unfortunately I also killed the merchant in the Palace (in my defense, the helpful hints weren't there when I went through) so I can't buy anymore, meaning I'll be forced to farm for them if I need more.

Also, I'm playing as a Temple Knight, so should I apply the Turpentine to my Halberd + 1 or the Bastard Sword?

    Thanks for any help, guys.

Use the fire bombs first I find that is better to kill some of the hoplites. Then use the turpentine.I don't think you can use the bastard sword with out using both hands yet so I say use the halberd. Really not a tough fight it is more forgiving than most of the other fights.

As for the merchant you can always remake your character and he will be there. Should not take long to get back to the phalanx. I would suggest losing some weight so you can roll around and move around faster.

I agree, also try not to let your health get to low though, occasionally you will get stunlocked by 3-4 hoplites and that can take out a serious chunk of your health.

Make sure you get the stray Hoplites first. The work to detach the rest of the Hoplites by making Phalanx ram into a piller.

Do the Hoplites respawn, or do they stay down once I kill them? Thanks for all the tips so far, I plan on tackling Phalanx later today as soon as I get home.

Slew it. You guys were right, it wasn't that bad, but I'm sure it gets worse from here on out.

Depends on how you are making your character. I am more melee than anything so some bosses have been a bit of a pain causing me to get magic. So far I think the hardest boss is flamelurker where I had to get 2 phantoms to help me out on it. Other than that I have not needed any other help. That is not to say I didn't die a few times per boss till I learned how to beat it. I try to do everything myself atleast 3 times before I look how to beat it on the wiki or else where. If that doesn't work then I will try phantoms which I had to do on flamelurker but overall nothing is all that bad.

I dont use phantoms because they die too easy and they take souls for each kill. I only use them when I want to have a little fun and not try so hard in a level (and make them demon bait for a while... lol)

Boom, we are almost the same in stratagy xD

Phlanx in NG+ is completly murdered by firestorm aswell. He will go down in between 2 and 3 hits and all off the hoplites will die quickly aswell.

A small note about phalanx, and about those slimes with shields:-

Using your weapon with one hand will make your character recoil when hitting the slime's shield, but that won't happen when you're wielding it with both hands, your attack will go through even if the damage is cut.
I say that because even if you're short on fire-damage items/magic, you can just go combo maniac on phalanx. Using a slashing weapon with two hands will let you hit multiple targets AND do combos.

If you have about 2 turpentine, and 3 firebombs, you can kill him easily.

Better yet...Try "Black Turpentine" <<< From world 5 merchant

Bastard Sword and Halberd are two excellent weapons for dealing with Phalanx. Personally, I suggest using the Bastard Sword's two-handed R1 and stripping down armor until you have less than 50% equip burden. Also, remove your shield and any other weapons you won't be using to lessen your equipment burden. It could allow you to wear another piece of armor, which could make the difference between dying and living.

Use the couple firebombs you have left, throw some turpentine on your weapon, and get in it's face. Any time your health drops to the point where 3 or so shots could kill you, hide behind a pillar and heal.

If you were able to get the Ring of Great Strength and it allows you to wear more armor, do so. Otherwise Thief's Ring/Cling Ring should work.

The first time I fought Phalanx, I used one fire bomb, no turpentine, and I didn't die once. He's not that hard, and you should be fine. But make sure to use your weapon two-handed. It will bounce off their shields if you don't. If you want to use your Halberd, two-handed R2 with turpentine works wonders on the Phalanx.

Of course I'm just now reading this thread and I see you've handled it. :|. Oh well, you've got the greatest boss fight in the game just ahead of you.
