Default Enchant Weapon - Yes or No?

I started as a soldier and like to fight with a shield and whatever weapon works best for that dungeon. Over time I got my faith up and can now memorize two miracles. I can memorize one magic spell right now and was thinking of Enchant Weapon.

I thought it would be a good choice because due to my low magic stats I'm not going to be doing crazy damage with offensive spells, instead I'll just be further enhancing my melee for key fights.

How much extra damage does this spell do? Would it be a good fit for my type of character?

I think for the miracle you be best served with 2nd Chance (One time revival) trust me it will be well worth having.

As for spells. Soul Arrow (costs 1000 souls) would be your best bet and you should probably also buy Water Veil (helps ALOT with the Flamelurker- cost of 500 souls I think) and also Soul Arrow upgrades to Soul Ray with the Doll Demons Soul. This upgrade is much more powerful and goes through shields.

You can have many spells on hand but only need to 'remember' one for your spell slot

Hmmm.... Soul Ray is definately doable at this time but with my Int. & Mag. both at 10 I don't expect great damage. Plus I'll be wand fighting which I really don't want to do given the investment I have with weapons and strength. That's why I'm wondering what Enchant Weapons does in concrete terms.

Yeah, Second Chance. I've heard about it. I'll definately scoop it up when I get a chance. Is it a miracle or a spell?

Enchant Weapon is not really needed. Light Weapon later on in the game is a lot more helpful and its basically a very beefed up version of Enchant Weapon. What they both do is add Magic damage to you weapon based on both your magic stat and the attack power of the weapon you apply it to. You cannot place this buff on weapons that already have magic damage (exceptions are Meat Cleaver, Blueblood Sword).

Second Chance is a miracle, requires 2 slots and 100 MP to use.

With 2 Miracle Slots there are other nice miracles you can get and use when you want.... there is:
    Heal
    Gods Wrath
    Cure (Antidote)
    Evacuate

Just saying you dont have to keep only one. Others can fill a role.
Ex: Evacuate, it costs 20K but having it on hand can be usefull if you are deep in a world with a load of souls and you need to leave FAST... not have to travel back to the archstone to leave

Or if you have a lot of souls just buy a lot of shards of archstone from Patches.

At 5k a pop... use it more than 4 times or more and evacuate is a better deal.

At the cost of a Faith slot, which could be used for miracles. I think the souls are worth it since you can always get souls, not faith slots .

I'm revisiting this thread because my soldier has managed to beat The Penetrator and now I have the Silver Demon's Soul.

I can get either Light Weapon or Cursed Weapon.

Light Weapon is doable right now but I don't have a lot of enchantable weapons. Many of my favourites already do magic or other damage to a certain degree. Cursed Weapon sounds mad (I kind of like it) but it needs a whopping three arcane slots, which I'm not so sure about grinding for right now.

Anyone have any experience with these two spells? Must I take one or the other or is it just as good to consume this soul?

while you can get by without either of them, i personally, use both of them. my blueblood build uses light weapon, and my str and dex builds both run cursed weapon. i would give both of them glowing reccomendations. with light, it takes 2 memory slots and uses a small ammount of MP, and with high magic stat, gives you very nice damage. on the other hand, cursed takes 3 slots and uses 100 mp, but it doubles your base damage on your weapon. the only downside to cursed weapon is that you take a lot of damage per second in return for using it. there is however a way to trick the game and only take 1 dmg per second that i can explain if you'd like.

Thanks Asaomar! I'm fairly familiar with the trick in question.

I think this is one of those cases where I should pick a spell over consuming the soul because eventually (perhaps even in NG+) it will come in very handy.

Okay, I'll pick Light Weapon with hopes of using it with Dozer Axe, Meatcleaver, Dragon Bone Smasher, or a high-end Crushing Weapon.

keep in mind that light weapon scales with your magic stat, so going with that spell, you'll want to level the magic stat some too.
