Ranking system

Suggestion name: Rankings?
Suggestion description: Some way for on the memberlist to sort by ranking (admins, mods, contributors, members, juniors, etc.) and some form of post or link that will let people know what they need to do to achieve a higher ranking in the forums. (Not reputation)
Suggestion Support: It lets people know who they need to go to for support, it also gives those people who want to move up in the rankings the knowledge of how to do so.

Additional Comments: Nope, just think that people would be more inclined help if they were rewarded for it.

yes and no, I want people to contribute rather than just troll, at the moment everyone is lurking (we have over 100 members and 2 are contributing, 5 are helping, 10 are asking questions, the rest are just lurking)

Reputation is good in concept but I could lay down 10000 helpful posts and have 0 rep because nobody hits the "give reputation button" (the scales in the upper right hand corner of a post)

yeah thats what i meant though, like doing certain things i.e. write a guide or give a useful tip gives you certain points to a certain *trophy*, like platinum for writing a kick @zz guide on BP locations on PBWT. lol just a random thought.

Here in is the issue with the way forums work.

Most new users are going to be looking for information and may feel intimidated about starting new threads or even asking questions on existing threads. They do not want to look stupid even though the whole forum thing is pretty anonymous.

Add to that, a new forum like this one can seem as though the early members all know each other and have formed a semi cohesive group that may not seem impenetrable.

Although this forum is not this way, from prior forum usage I have been forced into thinking that it is much more appropriate to search for information rather than starting a new thread when there may be a parallel thread that already exists. One forum I have been on for many years will actually berate the user for not doing an honest search first. It just seems to be the nature of the beast that is forums.

Forums work best when there are many users. I suggest not doing anything that will alienate new users from contributing.

Take the above with a grain of salt as it is just one user's opinion.

You know that is pretty true… but I really think it just depends on the person and how people act on forums in general. I mean this is the first forum I ever signed up for and I'm pretty new to the game, but I still asked questions like the newb i was because I wanted to learn more and get direct answers for my questions. After the Intro i made as my first post, I just got the vibe that this place was pretty open and cool. Not sure how it is with other forums, but since this is especially for gamers, I would think this place is more laid back? But who really knows what the future brings...

Achievements are cool because they give you a little shiny thing to work for (I suppose). I think the ranking system would be a cool add because it just lets people know which member knows what, but I don't think this would intimidate people even more to do or die with posting content (theoretically speaking) I figured the people who join this site would feel the same way i do somewhat, but then again this is just my opinion.

P.S. I like to make new friends lol.

Well I am a firm believer that people should search the forums before making a new thread. I know that it will not always show what you are looking for, but I still believe in searching.

Also I still think you all have morphed what I originally meant into a new concept (which I like) but that isnt what I meant.

For example everyone here currently is a junior member except: Ela, Admin, DemonsSouls, Boomkick, Shimizoki. How did Boomkick and I get a special ranking? because we contributed to the forums, he made the walkthroughs and I added bits and peices, together we came up with the item guide, and I did world tendencies.

I think there should be somewhere where it shows the people how to become a demons souls contributor (you can only have 1 title rather than multiple trophies) I think there should be other rankings (maybe a better word is job). tercac I believe made video walkthroughs. so tercac could get the title "Video expert" or something that shows new people who to go to if they need a video walkthrough of lets say exactly how to do the flamelurker glitch. If someone else thinks they can do that as well and has the materials they can read how to get that title and help.

In all seriousness though, this would make more sense, seeing as how this is a Demon's Souls Forum, we should have titles associated with the game.

Aye, better titles that more associate with the game would be good, I will work on it tomorrow, its a fairly easy process, so will be quick and easy to change the titles.

I had plans on changing the user titles to better associate with the game, but with little knowledge of the game, I decided to keep the default ones. but now, knowing ALOT more about ds, I will be able to make better titles.

also, for sorting members by rank, requires abit more work, I would have to find a mod for the forums that allows this, if one exists. Then the age old question of if I can add it myself, or if I have to wait 3 months for the programmer to do it.


ATM, I am waiting for my sister to get here from LA, and don't have alot of time to devote to anything to long drawn, and probably wont until after new years... with x-mas around the corner, and then one of the biggest party day's of the year right after. But you can expect to see new cool post count titles sometime tomorrow.
